It’s rainy season: A sudden downpour of water over the standstill of Manila’s infamous traffic jams, and me in the middle of it. I realized this was a city that could not be summed up in an online post. So, I decided to capture my first weekend in one of the busiest and most urbanized places in the world on film for you to experience with me.
After months of research and preparation, it finally came time for my internship abroad: two-months working in the Philippines’ bustling capital of Manila. I was excited; I was nervous; I was interning abroad and ready for it.
After CareerUp settled us in with an orientation and intro to our accommodation at the Milano Residence at Century City, the interns who had already been on-ground for a month wasted no time in taking us newbies under their wing.
A friendly introduction dinner soon spiraled into an activity-packed weekend. This ranged from exploring Manila’s Saturday morning markets and some of the country’s staple desserts, competing in my first ever game of laser tag, and having a guided bicycle tour of Intramuros, Manila’s historically Spanish district.
I had worried I wouldn’t meet many like-minded people in Manila or get to see much of the city with the wet weather, but I ended up being quite wrong. By the end of my first week, my many new friends and I were racing around the city and experiencing one of the most fun-filled weekends of my life.
Check out my video below for a small taste of what a weekend in Manila could look like for you as a CareerUp intern:
